BT Retail customers increase during Q2 2007
Ofcom, the telecom regulator issued its Telecommunications Market Report for the second quarter of 2007. The number of total connections in UK has reached 14,961,000 while BT Retail has crossed over 4,074,000 (DSL) connections during this quarter. This compares with 3,716,000 BT Retails connections of the previous quarter.
Other DSL connections which come from BT Wholesale showed a decline from 5,017,000 to 4,375,000. The cable giant Virgin Media has increased its broadband connections from 3,192,000 to 3,308,000 during the second quarter of last year.
Interestingly, there is an increasing trend on LLU products and many major providers have speeded up the unbundling of exchanges and launched many new products over their LLU network. Currently, there are many LLU operators that include TalkTalk, AOL, Sky, Be etc. It should be noted that 40 percent of broadband UK connections are bundled with other services like TV or phone or mobile service.
Current report on the performance of broadband providers in UK during the second quarter of 2007 shows that other services that include bundles services have penetrated over 3,204,000 connections, up from 2,432,000 of the previous quarter.
BT Retail, the broadband division of BT, has increased its market share from 25.9% to 27.9%. Currently BT Total offers both consumer and business broadband in UK. Its BT Total broadband offer three options with its popular BT Hub wireless router and optional BT Vision VoD service.
