About one thousand landlords in the UK have been asked by BT to sign up for the prototype of the proposed high speed broadband connection.

BT plans to provide Fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) services in the buildings for trial to be conducted by the BT Openreach engineers.

The buildings interested to take part in the trial will be provided with a speed of 100 Mbps. This will be gradually raised to 300 Mbps with the concurrence of the users. The company claims that download speed of 100 Mbps is the largest provided by the company in the country.

Mike Galvin of ‘BT Openreach’ remarked that the company will be pleased to provide super fast services to the buildings. He has learnt that the customers are badly in need of the super fast communication facility. They believe that high speed broadband is crucial for their development.

BT is very particular about the landlords involving in the project.

BT has provided GBP 2.5 billion for the facility in Blighty. Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) will be asked to provide around GBP 530 million for the scheme.

In November 2011, the government had stated that around GBP 100 million will be allotted for the installation and up-gradation of broadband networks in the urban areas. This funding will be out of the GBP 5 billion set aside for the national infrastructure investment.

It is expected that BT will surely do the needful for the cities concerned.
