BT, which succeeded in introducing 110 Mb download speeds with the help of fiber-to-the-premises’ (FTTP) broadband services believes that 300 Mb speeds can be attained by spring of next year.

BT will also permit its rival providers to avail its ultra fast broadband service on a whole sale basis.

Liv Garfield of BT Openreach is of the opinion that it is a very important step, which will be of great benefit to the community and the country. BT always wants to go higher and faster to meet the digital need s of the UK. BT’s efforts will allow the country to look to the future confidently.

Unlike other providers, BT is particular about extending its services to the rural areas. It will necessitate bidding for public funds. There are tough challenges but BT is determined to accomplish it.

Ed Vaizey, the Communications Minister lauded BT for its plans. Availability of 300 Mb will do a lot of good for the UK, especially in its economic growth. High tech and digital industries will prosper enormously due to improved connectivity.

BT intends to set aside GBP 2.5 billion to cater to the broadband needs of 66% of the UK population within the next four years.
