BT concentrates on North East regions for broadband installation

Tuesday, December 13th 2011

119,000 homes and business houses in Boldon, Stanley, Wallsend, Ashington, Blyth, South Shields, Consett and Peterlee in the North East region are going to benefit from the BT’s GBP 2.5 billion super fast fiber broadband installation programme. As part of the programme, 8 new exchanges will be opened in the region. Ultimately around 500,000 homes will be able to avail the facility.

If the installation goes as per the schedule, the upgrade will be complete in the next year and the broadband speed will increase to a record 300 Mbps. This will be a great boon to the homes and offices and will help in the improvement in their work environment and out put.

According to Chris Sayers of BT, the residents of the region are overwhelmed at the initiative of BT because it is going to improve their standard of life, their entertainment, their children’s education, and access to information and services.

The businesses, both small and big, can take the opportunity to sell their products. It gives them a chance to compete in the national and even international market. These are possible at very little expenses. No need to mention that larger businesses automatically pave the way for more job opportunities. Ultimately it will result in the improvement of the economy.

BT is not going to abandon rural areas where fiber broadband installation may not be feasible. Latest technologies will be adopted to achieve the needs.

BT is sure of providing fast connectivity to more than 66% of the UK premises by the end of 2014, well in advance of the target.

Presently more than six million UK homes are enjoying high speed broadband.
