BT claims that the UK will be the leader in super fast broadband by 2015

The goals of the UK government with respect to superfast broadband are as given below: Create coordination between the current and new providers. Give equal importance to urban and rural areas. Build the necessary infra structure to make available superfast connection in as much area as possible. The government has plans to ensure that the UK emerges as the best in superfast broadband in Europe by 2015. BT has fully cooperated with the government in paving the way for this important landmark, by installing the fiber broadband networks throughout the country. Other service providers are not lagging behind. For example, Virgin Media, which claims to have successfully completed the first phase of the fiber network upgrade task, claim that 33% of the premises are now assured of the proper connectivity. CtyFiber, is intending to have a $800 million fiber network project to ensure one million households and business establishments with one gigabit per second connections. Sean Williams of BT remarked that the government’s target was hard but attainable. He cannot understand why Britain can not become the leader if other providers also contribute as BT does. In fact he is seeking the cooperation of providers like Virgin Media and Fujitsu to achieve this, preferably by 2015 or a bit latter if necessary. He also said that 50% of those who were provided the facility made full use of it. Technology is advancing at more rapid speed than the demands of the consumer. BT has plans for services for shared telephone cabinets rather than individual premises if consumers agree.
