Broadband provider BT have claimed that the Government’s objective of Britain having the ‘best broadband in Europe by the year 2015 is right on target.

The Group Director of BT’s Strategy Policy and Portfolio has said that Britain will be on the top of the list either by 2015 or just after.

The Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt who is responsible for enhancing the digital infrastructure in Britain had stated that the UK will definitely have the best broadband in another four years, thereby making it easier for users as well as businesses to upload and download date, stream music, TV and movies. The government officials have nevertheless been condemned for not creating a series of measurements to measure what this could probably imply.

Mr Williams informed the Westminster eForum event that in spite of the fact that the aspirations were quite taxing, the UK in co-ordination with Virgin, Fujitsu and the other companies could probably attain their objective provided the geography and other requisite characteristics were comparable with that of its peers.

He also said that half of the users who were provided with super-fast broadband connections with 24mbps speeds had already subscribed to the service. He stated that the business model rolled out by BT expected every one of five consumers to take up the super-fast service. He commented that the only hitch that was an obstacle was their capacity. However he added that the restrictions on road work and planning could be reduced to enhance the broadband provision.

Williams also said that the technology was far ahead of the demand by the users and stated that BT’s idea to provide high-speed fibre broadband mainly to telephone cabinets that were shared, instead of to individual houses would be gradually looked into. He asserted that the investment that they were making is not going to a wash out, stating that even for the avid video gamer the new fibre products provided by BT would be far superior to what they currently have.
