Thanks to BT, the giant in the telecommunications sector, the first premises have been connected to fibre optic broadband service in Cheltenham.

In Gloucestershire town, BT has already connected the first properties and several other parts of the country like Nailsworth, stroud and Hardwicke are going to be upgraded by the end of the year.

The chief executive of GFirst, the local partnership for Gloucestershire, Mr. David Owen considers the arrival of fibre optic broadband to Cheltenham as a great development. He urged the businesses and householders in Cheltenham to make use of the fibre optic broadband service and reap the benefits of broadband service.

Mr. Ian Livinston, BT’s chief executive announced that within five or six years, 90 per cent of the properties in the UK will be provided with super-fast broadband services. He also announced the company’s plan to roll out the technology to Gloucestershire by the end of 2012 which would cover almost 70,000 homes.
