BT broadband customers in the United Kingdom would have something to celebrate as the telecoms regulator, Ofcom is planning to give the broadband provider, the nod to reduce its monthly prices, it has been charging the customers who had opted for a broadband – TV bundle.
It is understood that Ofcom has eased the restrictions placed on BT when it was known as a private firm in the eighties. As a matter of fact, these restrictions had prevented the broadband firm from offering broadband and line services bundled packages at a discounted price.
The new move by Ofcom is believed to be in line with the fact that slashing the broadband – TV rentals for fourteen million landline users could effectively level the competitive arena for the telecom firms.
BT may be introducing their package deals into the broadband market of the country in the coming autumn, triggered by the impetus offered by the fresh move by Ofcom. Incidentally, BT had been deprived of the advantages gained from launching package deals to the users, while rival firms were virtually feasting on them.
It is also interesting that the BT stocks had rocketed by 4.4 per cent immediately after the news was aired. This hike in its value in the stock market left the UK ISP as the biggest riser as per the FTSE 100 index report.
