Be Broadband provider welcomes BPI

Monday, July 28th 2008

The high speed broadband internet provider, Be says that it will abide by the new regulations framed by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) and the six ISPs of the UK recently. In a statement, Be Broadband said it is with the BPI which has reached an agreement with the ISPs to prevent illegal file sharing among the broadband customers.

The new anti-piracy campaign launched by the BPI met with an astounding success last week when it gathered support from the government and the ISPs to stop the internet users from downloading contents like music illegally. Eventually, an agreement was reached by the ISPs and the BPI that will allow the ISPs to warn their customers if they are found to be downloading the copy protected contents illegally.

Tech Radar of Be Broadband said:

"We are getting an increasing number of requests for information about members who (third parties) believe have infringed their copyright or other intellectual property rights.

"To keep members informed of what’s going on in most circumstances we will try to contact the member in question to make them aware that we have had a request from the rights holder."

It should be noted that a few ISPs like Virgin Media have already started sending emails to their customers who are found to be downloading music illegally.

The anti-piracy campaign is only a starting point in the attempt to make the ISPs realize that they should be responsible of what is taking place over their networks
