Wireless broadband setup for the laptop
One of my friends has this problem. He has two laptops and one of them has WLAN and is connected to the modem (ADSL) using ethernet cable. The other laptop has no WLAN connectivity and he wants to connect it to the internet.

Can he use very long cables to connect the USB port on the ADSL modem with the laptop that has no WLAN? Does he need to buy another modem for this laptop?

Can he upgrade this laptop to have WLAN capabilities? If so, what hardware will he need to buy for it?

Long cables can be used to connect the non-WLAN laptop computer or wireless LAN adaptor can be used instead. You may find many PCMCIA and USB devices available in the market.

Typically, USB works fine within the limit of 5 meters. So, this should be considered when using it for longer distances.

Cheers,
