WiMAX is set to slower growth
According to a report which I glanced through today, there will be 7-8 percent growth in WiMAX uptake in the next five years. This compares with nearly 50 percent growth in over-all broadband connections worldwide predicted for the same period. Forrester Research which has made these interesting predictions also say that ISPs like BT France Telecom may face churn issue due to the increased price-based competition from alternative ISPs.

WiMAX is certainly poised to better growth in future. It will become cheaper and cheaper when more operators come to launch services.
There are already over 1000 subscribers to the WiMAX service launched by FREEDOM4 in Milton Keynes. We will slow but steady growth in WiMax uptake in the future.

I wonder whether this is a right prediction since new technologies need certain time to pick up. Moreover, the needs of users dictate future course of any technology.
If not WiMax, some new technology will come up as needs vary from time to time.

Broadband prices certainly have become much cheaper during the last three years. However, there is a wide section of people still think that higher level packages are a bit expensive. This will also apply to wiMax or any new wireless technology. This is one of the reasons why ISPs are still hesitant to invest for setting up FTTn technology in UK. Will prices be affordable for majority of users? We need to wait a bit to get them cheap.

In UK wimax will not take off as it would in some developing countries like India and Pakistan and similar countries and the reason being UK already has a good infrastructure in place like telephone lines and cables laid by cable broadband service providers where as in India where last mile connectivity is still a major issue wimax will catch up like wild fire
Once wimax technology develops a bit and we are able to get data cards for wimax like we dot for wifi these days then due to the mobility factor wimax will be welcomes by the masses in UK who like to stay connected on the go.
Wimax enabled phones would certainly be a big hit in UK though.

Would love to hear from those who are using wimax broadband right now
