Interference.
Some people think WiFi hotspots are going to go away due to WIMAX. WIMAX is more of a mesh network for longer distances, but you still have to cover large buildings with Access Points as I don't see how WIMAX could penetrate a building easily.

You would be amazed at what wireless waves can do and where they can go. I agree that the hotspots are not going to go away anytime soon, as more and more people go with wireless.

Wimax technology will also definitely improve and works better if there is no obstacles but still it can penetrate through small and thin ones

As the technology grows so with the strength of the signals, so you may notice out of nowhere an increased capacity for being able to use it.

I think WiMAX Forum gives a clear definition of WiMAX.

WiMAX is a standards-based technology enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an alternative to cable and DSL.

So, WiMAX provides the link between stationary terminal and wired network.
