What is Wimax?
Never heard of this Wimax thing but it sounds like it's pretty popular.

Is it a different version of wireless technology? Software or Hardware?

Does it offer any benefits to the usual setup's or vendor specific type features?

Thanks! I'm gonna have a look into this as I'm setting up an LAN at home next month, and would like to try a few different technologies - as it's for practising and learning with.

It is always good to learn things, and getting information that is useful and can be a tool for learning is important. I am glad to see that you are not afraid to try new services.

Yes and to access the service you must look for hot spots and also you must have a hardware known as network controller from some good company like broadcom to run internet through wimax

WiMAx is the new wireless broadband with a range of up to 80km, with a bandwith of up to 75bps. It is the successor to Wi-Fi.This is highly recommended compared to Wi-Fi this is awesome as Wi-Fi can only reach speeds of 11mbps as wimax can reach up to 75mbps as stated.
