Anyone tried Vonage?
I am a bit of a Skype Addict and I wonder if anyone has had experience with Vonage?

Some of their packages seem good, but I have not experienced their service or quality.

As far as I know, both Skype and Vonage are popular VoIP providers offering much cheaper services than standard phone service. While some of the services offered by Skype are absolutely free, it is not so in case of Vonage. With Vonage, you need to choose anyone of their service plans before you get started with Vonage. Although I am not a Vonage user, some of my friends who use Vonage are quite happy with the service and quality. In the area of quality, Vonage indeed has an edge over Skype.

Despite the Skype calls to other Skype users are free, Skype has two disadvantages to my knowledge. First, you cannot dial 911 using your Skype connection and that will leave you to be dependent on your existing landline phone or mobile. Secondly, you need to start your PC and connect to internet, before you make a Skype call and that makes many people who go for a complete home phone replacement to choose Vonage.

In addition, Vonage offers a wide range of services like call waiting, call forwarding, redial etc. I have been a user of Vonage for nearly two years. I am using a cordless handset which provides greater mobility and I feel like using a mobile phone within my home.

I am a fervent supporter of Skype. Unless you make a lot of domestic and long distance calls, switching to Vonage will not serve any purpose. Moreover, Vonage is much costlier than Skype, right from installation to call charges. Vonage offers 911 emergency services and directory assistance, but that alone can not justify its high price.
