Why my VoIP goes patchy?
Hi, I bought a broadband connection mainly for VoIP. I dont download anything other than occasional browsing a few hours per day (sometimes, per week)

I would like to know how much bandwidth VoIP needs. Presently, my package offers 1.6 Mbps download speed and 185 upload speed. Sometimes, I find voice gets patchy, especially when I go for video chatting. Does it show, the speed is not enough to support VoIP?

Thanks.

1.6 Mbps speed is more than enough for VoIP as it can also work well with 512 kb.

Do you face this problem during peak hours or off-peak hours too? If your connection is slow during peak hours and you go for video chatting, this problem may occur.

If you download any file during your chatting, it is possible that your download speed gets saturated resulting in patchy voice transmission over VoIP.

It's a latency problem. As your connection speed is fine and no need to upgrade your package.

What about the configuration of your PC? If it is not fast enough, it might process everything slowly including internet processes.
