Why I get 'echo' during VoIP calls?
Frequently I experience reception problem when I make or receive VoIP calls using my VoIP service. The problem is I get annoying echo along with the voice. When I contacted my VoIP provider, they point their finger towards my ISP. I know there is no fault with my ISP because I am able to do other internet tasks fairly well.

So, what is the solution for this 'echo' problem? If you know the answer, please help.

I used to get this kind of problem in my VoIP phone too. Most of the time I would hang up the phone and make the call again after a couple of minutes. This technique often solves this issue.

If this problem occurs frequently and you are frustrated, I am afraid, you need to check the quality of your broadband connection using some internet based simulator.

Replacing your old modem or router with new equipment can also be helpful. Are you using the latest software for your equipment like router or modem? If not, you can get it from your provider's official site.

Make sure your hardware is not the source of your trouble. Only then, think about complaining to your VoIP provider.

I think Kate is right on the hardware point. I replaced the VOIP phone when this happened which solved the issue. I am not sure if it has anything to do with the broadband connection though.

Broadband connection issues usually show as interrupted/unclear sound quality rather than echo.

You can also try VoIP hardware and handsets with built-in echo cancellation. But I don't know much about their price and reliability.

Echo cancellation headphones shall be tried. Most of the times, the problem is not with the network but with the sound system we own.

We do get such noices with our phone calls too and in those cases we cannot help them, Try with some good quality noise cancellation headsets and respond.
Thanks.

If you have any network problems, that will definitely worsen the 'echo' problem. However, if you get constant echo, it is not caused by network problems.

Thanks, guys

The problem was immediately solved when I replaced my VoIP phone with a D-link DPH-120S IP Phone. It's really cool.

Make sure your VOIP phone is all connected correctly. This could maybe be a fault with your phone.I don't see how your internet service providor could affect your phone and make it echo.
