Netgear SPH101 Skype Wifi Phone Review
I was a bit excited when I saw this SPH101 Wifi skype phone from Netgear. Not terribly disappointed after I bought it. Avoiding the tech jargon, here is my brief review of the product.
What I like:
1. Small size: It really is the size of a mobile phone. Handy when travelling.
2. You do not have to be connected to the computer to talk on skype. This phone picks up your Wireless signal, signs-in to skype and stays on. (Until the battery lasts ofcourse). So you could be walking around the house or garden.
3. You can use it in Wifi Spots to connect to skype. Mainly useful when you are travelling, in hotels etc. (It will not work in Wifi hotspots which require browser based authentication though). I use it in hotels where I stay on travels. Most of the time, no issue.
4. Sound quality - quite good. Better than my previous wireless skype phone.
What I do not like about this phone:
1. Battery life of about 1 hour when you talk. It does not last many hours on stand-by anyway. This is the main gripe.
2. No cradle. It just comes with a wire which connects the power point and the phone. For this price, it would have been convenient to have a cradle, especially, with such a short battery life.
3. Bit expensive, around £100, compared to wired skype phones.
4. The phone does get a bit hot when you are talking and it is a bit uncomfortable after about 30 to 40 mins. I found it ok, but some people might find it difficult.
