VoIP providers to provide 999 or 112 services from September, 2008
Recent report on Ofcom's announcment shows that the VoIP Out providers and ‘Two way VoIP’ services will have to provide access to 999 or 112 services.

Ofcom confirmed its decision to make all VoIP providers to implement this from 8th September, 2008.

As all you know, 999 or 112 emergency services have not been allowed to most VoIP users and was the reason behind why VoIP has not still become a complete replacement for traditional telephony.

That's fine. We have to admit that VoIP is becoming a viable replacement nowadays, and Ofcom's announcment will certainly boost the VoIP takeup.

Meanwhile, VoIP setup often requires a bit technical knowledge and the following link was found to be useful when I decided to use VoIP as a complement to home phone.

I have been using Skype for the last two years. Infact, all my family members use a same phone to call both local and international numbers. We found our phone bill coming to half.

I dont see voIP setup needs much technical help. If you subscribe to Skype or Vonage, the providers themselves do everything for you. Though a bit expensive, it assures hassle free usage later.

Yes i certainly agree with this with the percentage of consumers who now use this product this would be appropriate. If your in your business using skype alot and there is a majour incident just quickly ring 999 from your VOIP service this is a fantastic idea.Hopefully this will come in affect sooner.
