I am new to skype options as I don't use them much. How can I search one of my friend. I just know his name and location.

There is skype search option which you can try and see if it works.

I located this from the skype help page hope this helps you and assists you to overcome how to carry out this operation.

1) Click on the small ‘plus’ button in the bottom left corner on the main window, or select Menu -> Contacts -> Search for Skype Users.
2) Enter your friends Skype name, full name, location, age, or other details in the search window, and click search. Skype will now present a list of matching search results.
3) Select the Skype name you believe is your friend, and ask for permission to contact them. Once they’ve accepted your request, you’re ready to Skype.
