UK broadband is too slow and to expensive
My friend for Japan pays only 11p permegabit for 100Mbps while in the Uk that would cost 1.81 pond and if we look at the US is 1.59 pound for the cheapest .
The average monthly cost in the UK is 14.50 pond and that second to only Slovakia as the most expensive .
In Sweden its on 5 pond at the entry -level which is a higher cost of living country .
I Japan they have all fibre optic , also you can upload and download at the same speed .
What are the managers of our counties companys going ? they should come up with ways to make live better for us .

Part of the problem is that our existing infrastructure can't support broadband as well as many other countries. Some countries essentially had the chance to start from scratch, so they were able to build with high speed data transmissions in mind.

Then we have the problem of paying staff over here - almost everything in the UK is comparatively expensive, so our wages need to be higher just to maintain a decent standard of living.

I don't think that companies set out to rip us off, it's a combination of factors that are all working against us.

Japan has the same upload as download speed?!?! wow, thats pretty cool.

Personally I wish the UK ISP's would pull their fingers out. High definition video is gonna be a killer for bandwidth when it becomes the norm. I heard YouTube is looking to improve the quality of it's video's.

I think our kids will no longer have a TV, but a high res screen connected direct to the net, huge servers instead of our present broadcast signals.

Smash is right. The internet is no longer going to be able to support what people want to stream across it, especially HDTV and super high quality gaming stuff..
About the TV stuff, once the UK goes digital, there will be nothing stopping that from happening, apart from the poor speed of the UK internet.
Fibre optic cables is certainly one of the ways forward though, they are hard wearing, and very fast. maybe the UK internet companies should make an investment, and replace the 'net lines everywhere with Fibre Optic, and improve things for everyone

Fiber optic is the key. In some areas of the US I know that older analog lines are stopping people from getting high speed internet connections. But all newer areas being built are putting in Fiber optic lines. Thus allowing faster connections. That will have to be what is done in the UK to be able to handle the faster digital needs.

Perhaps that is why companies such as Orange are giving away cheap laptops and other gimmicks, to lock in customers for two years before the UK prices plummet.

Could be good news ahead!

In the near futur the amount of download and upload will be huge . Uk may not be ready for some thing like that . Only BT would be ready to go into some thing like that but it is a must .

Well it really depends on the demand. If I can get a TV set that can give me what ever programme I wish, when I want it, then I would probably pay a lot of money for it. A sad fact about me, but I have always wanted to see Kenneth Clark's Civilisation.
