Pipex sells its consumer broadband and voice division to Tiscali for £210 million.
They has a downturn in the number of broadband sign ups . Thats is what to be said it the main reason for them to sell to Pipex . who is the winner Pipex , Tiscali or the users?

I liked pipex, i used to have there solo account in my last house and i used to to host my very first web site many years ago! , i havent had much experience with tiscali but i'm assuming that with there backbone it should mean less problems for pipex users in the future.

The winner? Tiscali. Pipex have some very loyal users and they will probably take a while before looking at anyone else. I've heard few good things about Tiscali.

Let hope that it is a win - win situation for every one . Time will tell us what is the end result of the sale , do you notice that lots of big companies have been selling of late .

I have noticed that there has been a lot of consolidation in the industry recently. Part of this must be because of the sheer number of providers, but I also think that deals are going to become much cheaper soon - so they are trying to buy up loyal (and un-changing) customers.

I suppose there is a premium in here for a famously loyal user base, which in this rather volatile day and age is quite rare.

If there is a big consolidation perhaps we will see more of the niche providers being bought out.
