O2 brings IPTV service in UK
O2, the ISP cum mobile company that owns Be Unlimited, has unveiled its plan to launch its IPTV service in the UK next year. The trial service will be launched in early next year and soon after the successful completion of the trial, O2's tv service over internet will be started as a full version.

O2 Telefonica is already offering its IPTV service in Czech Republic and the proposed plan to launch it in UK is just an extension of it.

BT Vision and Tiscali TV could be main rivals to the new TV over internet from O2

IPTV service is best suited for cable users, in my opinion. These high bandwidth consuming programmes can leave the ADSL lines jammed at times. No surprise that ISPs who deliver these services also bring traffic shaping on their lines.

There has been lots of discussion on the bandwidth issue as far as TV over ADSL broadband is concerned. No doubt, the existing BT lines (which is not suitable for highspeed broadband) and the inadequacy of servers of ISPs to handle traffic will cause slow down when more people try to access these bandwidth hungry programs.

Maybe, BT 21CN will be the solution to this problem

Recent research report from Tiscali says, IPTV has been becoming a popular medium and is about to replace traditional TV broadcast in future. Over 62 percent of people in UK would prefer to use their broadband connection to access on-demand TV for various reasons.

Majority of IPTV subscribers think downloading a movie is an easier option than getting the same from some video store.
