protect your router
Your router wireless mordems have a control panel that can be accessed from your browser, you will need to login into the panel which details you will find with the doc supplied with your router or modem

Change the default username and pass on your router and replace the manufactuer's setting

Close all ports on your router if you have any and the DNZ has to be active
Also trun ping responses off on your router

Change the SSid of your router to something you know but not related to you .

But there is no need to change the default username and password if yours is a personal computer as router can be configured from your terminal only.

That's probably safe for most, but I bet some remote connection program could bypass that by connecting to the machine, and then using that machines browser to connect back to the router.

IF you disable the ICMP you can re-enable it when you need to do a trace route or other functions that you cannot normally do when disables correct.
