Cable Broadband

Hi,

I wonder if someone can help me.

I've been asked by a work colleague to help them install a wireless router in their house.

The problem is, is that they are on Virgin cable broadband and to be honest I'm not too sure what equipment they need.

I use an ADSL connection in my house and have done for many years so I'm ok with that, but can someone please tell me do cable users need just a router or a modem/router and has anyone any recommendations on what may be suitable.

Hi.

To be honest I am not 100% sure, but from the little I know I think there is no such thing as a Cable modem with built in router,

Therefore you will need a Cable modem, and connect it to the the router of your choosing.

Your work colleague must have got cable modem from Virgin Media. To get broadband access wirelessly, he has to buy a wireless router that is compatible with the cable modem. Remember, all wireless routers cannot be connected to the cable modem. You have to make a bit web research and shopping around to find the best wireless router.
