can I buy my own modem?
Some ISPs offer free modem/router with their packages. Ofcourse, one has to watch out for hidden costs or long contract lengths.

With some pacakges, the hardware/equipment is not free and we have to pay for it. My question is - is buying offer modem/router cheap or expensive?

What about buying our own modems? Some say it must be cheaper than the modem the ISP offers

Can anyone give advice on this matter?

Use the modem supplied by your ISP
In my opinion, it is better to use the modem supplied by your ISP as they provide you directions on how to configure it.

You may get modems cheaper or may find excellent variety when you go for picking your own modem. But I would rather prefer the modem my provider supplies.

It's true. Using a preconfigured a modem that comes with your connection is easy, simple and less time consuming.

Some ISPs make you pay for installing your modem, especially if it is wireless modem.

I have never tried to get my own modem. If anyone found a cheaper but good quality modem, please write.

Do not buy your own router mate. You will have to learn how to configure this yourself, this means connecting it all and getting the settings correct for your Internet Service Providor. Its much more hassle free using the one provided.Your ISP will know exactly how to set it up for you, and if you have any further problems with it they will be able to help due to them knowing alot about it.
