You need a wireless router/modem and a wireless adapter to plug into the laptop.

There are different versions out there, today's minimum is 802.11g, N is due for release soon, and pre-N's are available.

N offers greater range and speed. You could hold on for the official release of N, but IMO G is fine more most people anyway right now.

Around £90 for both, stick with getting ones from the same manufacturer for simplicity in installation.

Well now days I use WI-FI hot spots with my laptop to connect to the internet. All I use is a wireless G notebook card plugged into my laptop and it pick ups networks in range and tells me which one are open access points, which require no further connection. I also look for hot spots when traveling as well.

Just use a wifi enabled router and there are also lan ports in router so you can connect your computer via lan port and laptop via wifi.

Yeah I guess your using Windows inbuilt features for this, and they aren't the best by far, just make sure you have a firewall setup well on the routing machine, as every things going through there, as I'm sire you know.

I would use something like ZoneAlarm on the firewall front, just for good measure - the Windows XP firewall really is the pits.

Yes it is very important to use a firewall when dealing with wireless connections. For your own computers safety, they are easy to setup and there are some good ones available to you.

Well said. WIth a firewall, good anti-virus and some sort of spyware protection, you are relatively safe online, as long as you dont go surfing the really nasty sites

I agree with you on that there are some sites that you just say no to no matter how tempting they may seem. I am very careful when my son wants to use my computer for game sites. I have specific ones that I have checked out and trust and those are the only ones he is allowed to go to.

There are two ways:
1. Wireless router this is explained above
2. WLAN card for computer and then make a ad-hoc network of your computer and laptop.
