There are a few really good routers out there. But you will really have to look at the specs on each one to see which one will best serve your needs. I really have used many and would not go with a netgear.

Belkin Wireles Pre-N router is the one which I use. Simple setup. I would say its range is quite outstanding and perhaps it is one of the fastest wireless routers available in today's market. Security features too are excellent. It comes with a firewall which works based on your laptop's hardware or MAC or address. To protect wireless LAN, you have two options - WEP or WPA can efficiently do it.

Well, it is a bit expensive but going for it will certainly add value to your money. You can take my word for it.

Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: You may need to use MIMO (Memory input/memory output) adaptor to enable it for better performance.

Good luck!

I would say buy netgear as they are cheap and also provide very good connectivity and most crucial part is they have a good customer service.
