Vista file sharing.

I have vista installed on 5 computers at my home. But when ever i want to share a file and want to copy it it asks for some username and password and I have provided it the correct username and password of the machine from where i want to copt still it would show the error what could be the problem??

Are the users authenticated by Active Directory or not? IE Do you have centralised user accounts?

If you do check the user specified has access to that PC.

If you dont have you tried putting the machine name infront of the user name IE Machine01\Jim rather than just Jim?

Just use any administrator account of the machine to which you want to login with password and that would work. Vista checks the authenticity before giving access.

I am not on vista ,but all I have to do is put the documents I want to share in the shared folder and everyone can access it from their computers.( I am on xp).If it requires a username and password to authenticate the sharing on vista,then I'd believe the administrator username and password would do it.
