I have a few tips of my own;

- Never go to pr0n sites! They're always contaminated with virus software.
- Never download off of Kazaa; it's a virus-haven.
- Make sure you check your torrents before downloading them.
- Scan regularly.

Vx.

A good virus scanner is a must, but personally I feel it has to be one that auto updates, a out of date virus scanner is potentially useless.

Most routers now have good enough firewalls so you may not need any more than the built in XP one (If your using XP of course).

I think it is still worth using a firewall as well as your router - the Norton security suite is pretty nice for being able to set up application level control, and will notice things like a specific DLL being changed - so if a virus is piggy-backing on a 'legitimate' application to connect to the internet, you'll get some warning.

If pro you are talking about anti virus then kaspersky is also good and try it once you'll forget nod32 and kaspersky autoupdates without disturbing the user.

I have started using NOD32 as everyone is recommending it. And its really nice as its very powerful and also doesn't eat up many resources.
