Longhorn
Have any of you looked at Longhorn yet and some of the advanced security features it offers, like th eability to install a file server in headless mode which has no gui and used a command line interface only?

Longhorn or Windows Server 2008 as its now known, is a server based operating system, very few of us will ever need to use it, although I've been playing with it.

Vista is the desktop version of Longhorn and has some of the advances such as IIS7.

I dunno about that Jen, I'm sure that 99% of business will be looking at moving to Longhorn over the next 5 years

Hell no, they won't! Server administrators are careful folk. If it ain't broke don't fix it. They want it to be tried, tested and to be compatable with everything else in the known universe.

I'm with Hazel on this one, we still have quite a few Windows 2000 servers running, why because they work, perhaps when they get replaced they may get replaced by Longhorn but it will more than likely be Windows Server 2003.

Think the dont use the x.0 version of the product rule still holds in most places, once it gets its first service pack then they may start using it.

Never used longhorn but I am with vista now and even on vista you can install any server like a file or an HTTP and having a GUI is always an advantage and not a fallback.
