Xp Firewall enough?
Hi everyone

I have XP SP2 installed at home and wondered if the firewall part of XP is up to the job or should I look at another firewall?

Depends what else you are sitting behind, most ADSL routers have a pretty good firewall built in which blocks pretty much everything if you leave it alone, you may however want to "upgrade" the XP firewall to something else if your worried about outbound connections.

IE Connections that start at your PC going outwards, such as a trojan or something like that. However if your general PC security is good and you have anti virus and anti spyware the XP firewall should be fine.

If you are not using a firewall , then you are in trouble . GET A FIREWALL TODAY ! I did not use a fire wall and my comp kept going off cause of a virus , then I had to uninstall XP and I used to hate it .

Ok,

I am sitting behind a BT homehub which seems ok? SO that with the XP firewall should be ok - I won't hold you to it

Yes XP firewall is enough and works fine for me as I am on a lan and my pc cannot be accessed if the XP firewall is on. So I am fully satisfied.

Not to be rude but XP's firewall totally sux, and I mean sux.

I doesn't block outgoing data for one and there are so many vulnerabilities you would be shocked.

HERE

There are much better Firewalls out there and they are free.

I'm gonna recommend ZoneAlarm. It learns as it goes, there are others but it has the biggest number of users out there so any problems are easily googled.

I agree with smash and XP's firewall is the worst firewall and it justs knows to block the user's applications and not the unwanted programs.

No xp's firewall is not enough as I can see many unwanted programs work even after the xp's firewall is on so use some external firewalls also.

No I don't think you can feel secure just on XP firewall as when I just used it I saw many malicious applications/virus on my computer working and corrupting data freely. So do use some protection like AVG.
