Activation fee
Presently I am with TalkTalk and wish to switch to UK Online once my contract with TalkTalk is over. My question is what is all this setup or activation fee about? I always used to think that we pay activation fee only once even when we go for a change in ISP? Can anybody say whether I am right or wrong?

You need not pay activation fee if you change to another provider immediately after the expiry of your current contract. All you need to pay is a simple churn fee to your new provider.

However, if you get disconnected for a longer month (say 2 or 3 months), you have to reconnect which means you will incur activation charges.

Hope you are not leaving TalkTalk for the reasons of poor service or higher costs.

UK Online are certainly good, however, TalkTalk is also a good ISP as well. Their international call plans with free broadband (8Mb speed and 40 GB download limit) are certainly among the cheapest deals available in the UK.

Currently, many ISPs slash these hiddens costs so much that you need not worry much if you sign up for a package for the first time. However, when you switch provider, you may come across many problems. Read the following guide:

Well said, smith. I have been with TalkTalk ever since they launched free broadband with their international call plan. Great value packages, I would say.

UK Online., mm,, they revamped their packages. Heard their customer support is excellent.

As long as my ISP is ok, I would not think about switching.

No guys, nothing wrong with TalkTalk. Their services have been good so far and I had no problems whatsover.

Actually, I need a bit faster connection, so I am considering to take UK Online Premier package which offers 16 Mbps. This package has no monthly cap too.

Just thought an unlimited package will suit my needs.

No, blasted, if you get a truly 16Mb speed (or even half of that), you needn't wait seconds for downloading a webpage. it will be micro seconds.

Sky broadband and UK online offer up to 16Mb packages right now. Definitely, they are high speed packages with lightning speeds. You can download a short video clip in less than a minute.
