Any formula to calculate the download speed?
I would like to upgrade to 8 Mbps from 2 Mbps. In fact I get 1.69 Mbps with my current package. My question is, is there any way to calculate the maximum download speed that is achievable on a line (with headline speed 8 Mb or 16 Mb)?

I think you will get download speed which could be slightly higher than one-tenths of the bandwidth of your line.

Download speeds also depend upon the configuration of your PC (memory & processor) and you can use certain software to enhance the download speed marginally.

My speed test shows I am getting 235 Kbps download speed. Seems I must be lucky to get that much speed. One of my friends gets download speed below 150 Kbps, he is also using the same package (2 Mb )

You must be living near to the exchange, it seems. How far is your friend's residence from exchange?

He lives in an apartment next to mine, so I think, both of us must be at same distance from the exchange.

The BT exchange is 2 kms from our building.
