Sleep is a form of rest when most parts of our organism get rejuvenated.
I think, how long you sleep doesn't matter that much as how deep you had your sleep. It is said, people who do a lot of work using their brain need more sleep than who do physical labour.

Some people need more sleep whereas some need just a few hours sleep to start their day fresh.

I get around 7 hours a night lying in bed, how much of that I sleep I'm not sure of - sometimes I just can't get to sleep at all - probably because I drink too much coffee,*grin*.

Sleep is important, but so hard to get these days

I tend to sleep 3am-10am, which makes about 7 hours, in the holidays. But sometimes I have to get up at 6-7am, making only 3 hours of sleep!
