Line rental: Is it necessary?
Are you getting broadband via phone line? If you say yes, I presume you will be paying line rental for your broadband. A survey says most of the DSL broadband users are disgusted with increasing line rental. Some of them even reconsider taking DSL broadband due to this factor.

How many of us know that we can get broadband without phone lines? Instead of paying line rental which increases now and then, one can go for wireless or cable broadband.

Line rental is one of the hidden costs that you have to watch out for. I think all ISPs advertise their products with price not inclusive of line rental.

Can anyone provide further information over line rentals of different ISPs, so that all of us could become a bit alert when choosing a provider?

Yes they are very sneaky i know my ISP charged bloomin £8 for line rental which makes it expensive cheap when advertised.I would recommend reading their terms and conditions for each internet service providor so you get to know the real facts about what they are actually giving you.

Tiscali offers a few packages which are available without line rental.
More details>>
Since you get your broadband connection via telephone wires, you are supposed to pay for line rental for using the wires. Quite easy to understand. Happily, line rental has been reduced in recent years.
One has to be watchful over these types of hidden costs before signing up.

Oh thanks very much for this Nick mate. However, i am very far away from the exchange this is why i was told i still have to pay line rental at the moment.Do you think this would still apply on this new package as im uncertain with Tiscali.Already had massive arguments with them about their service on customer support.Overall, there not too bad though.

Only way to avoid phone rental is to choose a cable broadband which does not have such hidden costs. As far as phone rental is concerned, TalkTalk call plans great money savers as they also offer free broadband with 8mb download speed and 40GB download limit.
I would also recommend Toucan call plans, as they have the lowest phone rental among other broadband packages.
