Robot Surgeons
I'm not 100% sure as to how happy I would be having a robot perform surgery on me one slip and its all over

"A robotic arm able to carry out an intricate life-saving heart operation is being pioneered by UK surgeons.
The robot is used to guide thin wires through blood vessels in the heart to treat a fast or irregular heartbeat."

QFT

If a robot can do it better, then why not let a robot do it? Though this does remind me of the saying "To err is human, to really f*** something up you need a computer!"

To perform surgery on the heart is to say that the human body not a very good me machine and I am sorry to the say the body is the only machine that the more we work it the better it gets and the human mind is the greatest machine .

....huh?

I guess what you're trying to say is that humans develop, but machines don't. I suppose that's somewhat true, although machines are developed by humans, usually multiple humans, and they don't have attributes such as arrogance that prevent them from developing past certain points, and they cannot be distracted (unless that is their design).

This reminds me of the anti-GE movement. I think you'll find that under proper measurement, the benefits of moving forward in this field far outweigh any costs.

If we didn't progress ideas just because they offended our comfort zones, we'd still be living in a geocentric universe.

Even if they did (do?) use them, it would be better for the public not to know.

Take this for an example. I was on a plane a few month back, and after the landing the pilot said something along the lines of "Sorry the landing was slightly bumpier than usual, since visibility was poor we decided to let the computer land the aircraft"

If the pilot said that it was going to be an automated landing whilst we were still in the air, i'm sure a lot of people would be terrified, I know I would!

Human hands tend to shake - that is the point. If heart surgeries involving minute arteries have to be performed, I think robots will have an edge over human surgeons, as their hands will never shake.

Still, human surgeons control the robots, so there is no question of robot Vs human

I wouldn't trust robots performing life saving operations on me.You can't beat a humans work as they can get the operations precise and work efficiently on you.If a robot goes wrong or slightly malfunctions they could be a huge problem for you.I don't think this is a good idea at all.Maybe for more less serious things like a till assistant in retail but not something like this.
