Choosing a suitable BT broaband deal
I live in the heart of London City. I come to know the nearest BT exchange is less than 1 km from my home.
I will be grateful if anyone offers useful advice getting a suitable broadband package.
I read the broadband guides available on this site and found them to be very helpful.
I would like to prefer a deal from BT or PlusNet as I have plans to setup a VoIP phone as soon as I hooked up to internet.

Could anyone plz offer some guidance?

BT is a leading ISP so you can get reliable service and there are three consumer broadband packages available. BT also provides Mac support and won the best ISP award by Mac users recently.
BT Option 1 is ideal for beginners although BT Option 2 can be considered if you have plans to go wireless.
With Option 3 you get free BT home hub and hub phone.

Other benefits include free VoIP calls, wifi minutes, optional BT Vision Tv service etc.

PlusNet internet provider offer similar kind of products but you get an additional PAYG option.

Have you checked the availability of provider/package in your area? Once you have chosen the right package, it is to confirm the availability of the service in your area.

If you plan to setup VoIP, I would recommend PlusNet Broadband Your Way Pro which is suitable not only for this application but also for online gaming.

This package comes with prioritized traffic for gaming and you also get free wifi minutes as other Options. May be a bit pricey, it is worth spending for this package.

BT Total Option is 1 is one of the cheapest broadband available in UK. There are also options to add wireless by buying BT Home Hub and Hub phone. There are free wifi minutes, VoIP calls and you can also enjoy BT Vision with your package.

Since you say you are very near to BT exchange (1 km), I would suggest that you take BT Total Option 1

If you want to increase your download speeds by up to 4Mb, then go for BT's Accelerator or iPlate . This technology is about reducing interference problems that are happening through telephone lines.
