ADSL2 giving 24Mbps speed ?
What is the story about ADSL giving 24Mbps speed ? I hear that you will only get 5Mps and 9Mbps speed is this true ? is it worth it ?
Why can't the have a fibre-optic cable and not a copper wire ?

If that the case why do they charge you for 24mbs? - I wish there was an easy way of working these thing out.

Maybe Fibre optic is too expensive?

UK isn't fibre based because the UK phone system is based on technology created early last century before Fibre was really popular. The exchanges have been updated but the local loop is still pretty old stuff.

From what I've read BT may be laying fibre to the door as part of their 21C project however that will only be for new cabling everyone else will be stuck with copper wire for some time yet.

Going ADSL2+ will help things though as it performs better than standard ADSL on bad quality lines. Ok wont give everyone 24Mbit but should allow them to go faster than they do currently.
