How much speed can ADSL 2 offer?

Hi,
It seems that there is no definite answer to my query, which is, how much speed can ADSL 2 can offer? I live about 1 km from the local exchange.

If the connection speed is around 20 Mbps, what speed could I get in my premises? If distance can affect the speed, how much download speed can I reasonably expect on my line.
