Testing your broadband speed
Here is a useful website if you want to test your ADSL broadband connection. It is worthwhile you check the speed at various times of the day to get an average speed of your connection.

My internet speed, without the test I mean; is 1.5mb/s, It isn't great but it's definitely good enough to suit my tastes.

I use Dan Elwells Broadband Speed Test - it gives more detailed results than most other speed tests and is good for seeing where problems lie - e.g testing downloads in your country, and from other countries, and doing ping / traceroute / packet loss tests.

You need to register it to check upload speed though

If your on an Upto 8Mbit you are getting exactly what the ISP said you would get UPTO 8MBit trouble is 1MBit is UPTO 8MBit, also its mostly not your ISPs fault your line is slow its the link between your house and the exchange.

I have between 2Mbit and 6MBit, but I'm not complaining because I did my research before hand and knew thats roughly what my line would take, infact I tend to get faster than my line should have as the pre-installation reports were saying 2-3MBit.
