I have heard that is a Service for ADSL Users. Contention means share so what you're doing is sharing the service at a specific ratio.
For example if you are sharing a 500 Kbit/s connection with up to 49 other users. So if they were all using it at the same time 'theoretically' you would only get 10 Kbit/s, but this almost never happens because people connect at different times...
I hope this helped a little!

It is the number of people sharing your connection. The lower your contention ratio, the better performace you will get out of your broadband; and the more it will cost you.

Some business packages promise 20:1 contention ratio, while home broadband comes with 50:1.

For this reason, business packages are more expensive.

There are many factors that affect the speed of our broadband connection. Line length, quality of wire, now contention ratio.

If you are a heavy user not only your speed will be slow but it will also affect others, I mean, if the contention is 50:1 or worse that that.

Yes I agree the more the people sharing the same connection more is your contention ratio and more the people sharing lesser is the speed. So go for low contention ratio connections.

Although I do not know much about contention ratio, but there are some things that you would want to look at such as how long the cord is and quality of wire within the line. The more you use the slower the speed will be.

Are there some rules regarding this because my speed is falling day by day. And I think this is due to contetion ratio only.
