Upload faster than Download
For the nine months I have had an ADSL connection I have had consistently slow speed, and downloading has always been slower than uploading, eg speedtest.net shows about 250kbps down and 370 up on a line which BT say should deliver 4Mbps.
The BT performance test (speedtester.bt.com) usually shows my IP profile as a fairly healthy 3000 (sometimes 2500 or 3500), the upstream DSL connection rate about 10% higher and the downstream DSL connection rate 448, which seems to be standard. All OK so far. But the final figure from the test (the actual IP throughput achieved during the test) is usually about 7 kbps, though it has been as low as 2 and as high as 17. Yes!!
In practice, it isn't qiite that bad. As I say, speedtest gives about 250kbps, not 7. The true upload rate of 370 is probably what you would expect for the DSL connection rate of 448 -- it is the downstream which is haywire, and the reason why uploads are faster than downloads.
I have been in almost daily contact with a BT team in Newcastle for months, five BT engineers have each spent an hour or more investigating the problem -- all their tests show my line is working well. I have two computers (one XP, one Vista), one connected to a BT hub by Ethernet the other by wireless and both give (and have always given) the same result. The hub and the wallbox have both been changed. I have two lines, and BT have switched them at my end and at the exchange with no improvement. Twice BT have said they have found a fault and made a lift-and-shift, but to no avail. I live in a small village and know the performance that nineteen ADSL users get -- two others have the same as me. Two of us have BT as our ISP, the third had a different provider and has recently switched to a fourth, but without improvement.
BT have been unable to solve the conundrum. Has anyone any idea what is going on? PLEEEASE.
