Can cable broadband offer better speeds than ADSL 2+?

I am using ADSL 2+ broadband service and I am 2.4 kms from my local exchange. Virgin Media cable broadband is available in my area and planning to change from ADSL 2+ to cable.

Currently, I get around 14Mbps download speed. Will I get the same speeds with cable broadband service? What is the maximum speed that one gets from Virgin Media XL package?

Virgin Media offers reliable speeds but the speeds could vary significantly at times depending on the number of users on the cable line. However, with cable broadband, you get better upload speeds than what you get from ADSL lines.

Virgin Media uses fibre optic lines so you can get fantastic speeds. Among the ADSL providers, only O2 and Be deliver high speeds. So, check it out that you get fibre optic broadband from Virgin Media before you switch

Hi guyz,
I am back to this forum.I have read in some articles that in theory fibre cable broadband can offer about 200 Mbps.I beleive that this could be possible in the near future and looking for it.But today from my knowledge,virgin media is providing up to 50 Mbps speed and uses fibre cable technology.

On the other hand many other ADSL 2+ providers can provide only around 24 Mbps.So i suggest the guyz to go for a cable broadband.
