Static IP and networking
I have recently signed up to BT Business broadband with a static IP.

Currently, I am using a Netgear router and planning to install a server and a few computers on a network. I would like to know what things I need to consider when we use a static IP. How is it different from dynamic IP? Should I take a few precautions, especially, security etc?

Thanks,

Static IP is assigned permanently to your PC by your ISP while Dynamic IP changes everytime you log on to the internet. In other aspects, there are not many differences between them.

What is important is you should NAT your IP to the remote PCs and this will protect all the PCs like a firewall. NAT actually prevents unwanted traffic to your PCs on the network.
