trying to get the internet on 2 computers
i'm in a bit of a quandry as to how to approach this one:

I've got a desktop computer downstairs running aol broadband 2 meg through a bt voyager usb adsl modem. Had it for three or so years and works fine, no probelms.

however, i'd like to be able to get the internet on a lap top upstairs. i've aquired a wireless netgear dg834g v3 and a wg111 v2 wireless usb thingy. I've got it all working, i've got the netgear modem downstairs and plug the usb thing in the laptop and it all works fine. But i see that i can only get 1 meg with the netgear.

ideally what i'd like to do is connect to aol via the 2 mb bt voyager on the desktop downstairs, but plug the wireless netgear into it as well to feed the usb receiver on the laptop upstairs.

trouble is, we've only got one phone line in the whole house and i've tried a splitter in every combination i can think but i don't get no signal. (can you split phone lines in two?)

anyway, if anyone has any ideas, would be greatly appreciated, and i hope you guys can understand my somewhat less-than-technical jabbering!!

You sure it is the way your equipment is set up mate as it could be your internet server providor. Also mate i would recommend you PM an admin to change your Username as your email address could be targeted by spam bots and is very unsecure.

It is not ' internet server providor' but Internet Service Provider. Would do you be a little careful about these small things, blasted?
Spelling and grammar.

I don't know whether this will help:
Configure your netgear router with a different IP to your BT Voyager modem.
Also set your netgear router in 'bridge mode' if it has bridge mode. Then connect it to Voyager and your desktop using two Ethernet cables.
