My PC gets restarted
Currently, I have this problem: My PC gets restarted after every 10 minutes. When I try to install any file or browse a page using IE, immediately everthing goes blank and my PC restarts. Why does this happen?

I have also unchecked the box against 'automatically restart' option in system error reporting properties but in vain.

What causes this problem? Any conflict between hardware components?

thanks.

I had this problem and it was a virus however, i got a box coming up saying your computer is going to restart and it was a 5 minute countdown.I would try running spyware this seems like spyware. Also go onto my computer then right click on your disc drive you use most click properties, click on the tools navigation button then click check now for error checking this normally fixes errors on your hardrive. On the pop up box tick both boxes.

Yes, we cannot rule it out. Plz answer the following questions to make a guess.

1. Have you checked the RAM using memory test?

2. How many memory slots does your PC have?

3. Is it just a single RAM chip or a combination of memory chips?

Great Scott! I can understand why are you asking those questions. There are my answers

1. I never know anything about memory test, so I have never used it.

2. My 2.4 GHz intel celeron PC has two memory slots. Only recently, when I opened the cabinet, I found it.

3. I am using both the memory slots - one for 128 Mb chip and another for 256 Mb memory chip

So, do you think it is a conflict between two memory chips that causes the PC to restart.

Precisely!

Remove one memory chip and restart your PC with a single chip. If the problem is due to the hardware conflict, this problem will not crop up again.

I removed the 128 Mb memory chip and restarted my PC with 256 Mb RAM chip. My PC did not start till then.
Thank you Smith for your help.

However, my system has slowed down, so thinking to put a single 1 GB memory chip soon.
