Hardware for broadband
I am about to get a broadband connection soon. I am also thinking about connecting a laptop with my desktop PC which will be directly connected to internet. So, I will need a modem and router.

What are these filters and splitters which I have heard about? Do I need to buy them? Currently, my line is connected to a phone. Apart from modem and router, what other hardware I need for the internet connection?

When you move onto broadband your Internet Server Providor will supply you with all the equipment to get online. This will include a filter this allows your phone line to be free when on the internet unlike dialup.

Are you going to connect anything other than modem to the line?

Then, you will require a filter to connect your phone/answering machine.
Remember, filter divides your line for the use of different equipment and you will require a filter for each equipment you like to add.

However, you need not buy a filter as your ISP will supply it when you sign up for a package.
