Something is wrong with the windows you have to reindtall it. Or just install the first step and not the one when it requires 39 minutes as the first step will only load the NT loader which is boot loader for windows.

You dont have to reinstall windows, you just have to replace the boot loader, I'm assuming its XP, just put your install CD in and run the recovery console and off the top of my head

FDISK /MBR

Should fix it, that will replace the master boot record which has been damaged.

Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it when people actually tell you what you can do to fix something.

I have heard that most people are taught to reinstall when something goes wrong. But learned myself recently that a reinstall is not the first choice when fixing software issues. I guess this is what makes the difference between a thechnical support person and a technical guru

There is no way out you have to repair your windows by your XP cd and even if this is not working go for windows installation again.
