If your system have Windows XP operating system, dial-up connection can be activated by following these steps:

1. Go to Control panel and open "Network Connections" by double clicking the icon.

2. Now, click on "Create New Connection"

3. Now, click on "Next"

4. Among the options, choose "Connect to the Internet"

5. Then choose "Set up my connection manually"

6. Then select "Connect using a Dialup Modem"

7. In the space provided of ISP Name, type the name of your ISP

8. Next, type the POP Number based on where you are situated

9. Type in all the details as supplied by your ISP

10. Now, click "Next"

11. Finally, click "Finish"

If you like to go with dial-up, you will need dial-up modem and it is up to you to choose the best modem available in the market.

For a software to monitor or measure your dialup, you can search freeware sites where you can find such software. I personally feel, downloading any dubious software may not be safe for your system. Think!

Are you referring to setting a dial up account that you have been given by an Internet Service Provider or setting up your own service itself. I think that you question can be confused very easily and I wanted to make sure it was clear before I answer.

Since everyone else has answered how you set up a dial up connection, I'll answer setting up the dial up ISP.

In short dont, its a shrinking market ok the company I work for still makes a fortune from it but we've been doing it for around 10 years and have a fairly good market share.

So to do it you would need loads of phone lines, loads of modems but not the consumer kind you will need ISP modems as if I remember rightly (And its been a while) V90 allows 56k down and 33k up, so you need modems that do 56k up and 33k down. You also need a large number of phone lines and a big pipe to the net, although 56k doesnt sound much when you start doing it multiple times it adds up quickly.

Strangely enough in our old office we had one of these ISP modems, cost around 300k when new, and we used it as a printer stand, it wasnt even worth eBaying.

Jen

Please specifically mention which OS are you talking about. For XP smith has already given the steps and there are also softwares provided by ISP which automatically make the connection for you.
