Can a network camera have a impact on the bandwidth speed
I have a Axis 206 network camera with which I can watch my house when I am at work its mainly to keep a eye on the kids with a fixed IP on my LAN .
What I would like to know is what is the impact on my bandwidth usage .
There will be incoming traffic when I access the camera will there be outgoing traffic when I view the image .

I very much doubt it. Of course it depends on your connection, bit I would think anything over 1mbwould be fine.

Is the camera colour or black and white, and also the resolution/frame rate should be found out as well.

Sounds interesting mind. How are you setting this up?

I would assume then it is real time, and therefore it would take up some of the bandwidth, I could not imagine that it would take a whole lot but since it continually runs it would affect traffic both in and out.

No I don't think there is any problem till you are using the data from it. As you can do the settings like dont transfer data to internet unless requested.

All components connected to the router or the network switch takes bandwidth in one way or another. But it will always be in proportion to all other components. You should not worry about your camera taking more bandwidth than your computer.

If its sending data then that means you are downloading data so your bandwidth will be used.

The only problem that may occur is if you start running the programs on your works computer to view the network cameras footage it will just slow down the general computers speed. Its no majour issue and good idea keep an eye on them kids hey you never know what there up to.
